Middle Ring (Zhenbei) Commercial District

The Middle Ring (Zhenbei) district, 中环（真北）商圈 (Zhōnghuán (Zhēnběi) Shāngquān), is a trade and shopping area in Putuo District, built around Zhenbei Road and the Middle Ring Road in west Shanghai. It is a modern business district with large shopping complexes and few historic sights. It is a place to shop or pass through, not to sightsee.

The district has no long documented history of its own. Its current standing comes from planning. The 2022-2035 commercial-space plan lists the Middle Ring (Zhenbei) centre as one of Shanghai’s 29 city-level commercial centres, covering about 0.7 square kilometres with about 650,000 square metres of planned commercial floor space. The plan bases it on the Middle Ring area’s connections to the Yangtze Delta, its large volume of commercial and business space, and the number of well-known trading companies based there. Its direction is new trade, technology services and creative industries, and a shift towards comprehensive, experience-based and intelligent commercial space.

The best-known single complex in this part of Putuo is Yuexing Global Harbor (月星环球港, Yuèxīng Huánqiúgǎng). Yuexing Group developed it with the British firm Chapman Taylor as architect, and it began operating on 5 July 2013, although one source gives September. It stands at 3300 Zhongshan North Road beside the East China Normal University campus and Changfeng Park, has about 480,000 square metres of floor area, and is served by Metro Lines 3, 4 and 13 at Jinshajiang Road station.

One caution: the plan text we checked does not map the centre’s boundary or name its malls, so whether Global Harbor falls inside the planned centre is not confirmed here.
