Lawrence Kadoorie (劳伦斯·嘉道理, Láolúnsī Jiādàolǐ) was born in Hong Kong in 1899, the elder son of Elly Kadoorie. Interned by the Japanese during the war, he returned to Hong Kong in 1945 and took charge of China Light and Power, whose capacity grew from 19.5 MW in 1946 to 2,656 MW in 1981. With his brother Horace he founded the Kadoorie Agricultural Aid Association in 1951, and in 1981 he became Baron Kadoorie, the first Hong Kong-born person made a life peer. He died in 1993.
