Areas
Expo Site and Century Park
世博 / 世纪公园
Pudong beyond Lujiazui: art museums on the former Expo site, Century Park, the Science and Technology Museum and Shanghai Museum East.
Best formuseumsfamilies
This is Pudong (浦东, Pǔdōng) south and east of Lujiazui, a district of wide avenues, parks and large new museums. It splits into two clusters, and you will want the metro or a taxi between them.
Century Avenue and Century Park
At the eastern end of Century Avenue are the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, the Shanghai Museum East, the Shanghai Museum’s new wing for ancient Chinese art, and the lawns and lakes of Century Park. They are within walking distance of each other and together make a full day.
The Expo riverfront
To the south, on the former Expo site, the red China Art Museum occupies the old China Pavilion. Across the river on the Puxi side is the Power Station of Art, a contemporary art museum in a former power plant with its tall chimney kept.
If you are short of time, choose one cluster: Century Park for families and ancient art, the Expo riverfront for modern art.
